Recycled cashmere is made from garments nobody wanted, shredded back to fibre and respun. The fibres come out shorter, so the cloth is softer and less hard-wearing than virgin cashmere - it pills at the cuffs in the first winter and then settles.

I tell buyers that plainly, because the alternative is virgin cashmere, and the goat-per-coat arithmetic on that is not something I want on the label.
