Nine Rolls

A Como mill closed in 2022 and a friend bought its remaining stock at auction. Nine rolls of a dark stone crepe came to us, which is enough for fifty-two dresses and nothing else.

There is no cleverness in the pattern at all - a round neck, a narrow facing, long sleeves, a floor-length column. When a cloth is this good the correct thing to do is get out of its way.

Fifty-two exist. Thirty-eight have gone. The number on the label is the number of the dress.
