Hemp is the fibre I keep coming back to: it needs almost no water, no pesticide, and it makes a twill that gets better rather than thinner. The only reason more people do not use it is that it is difficult to spin finely, which took our mill two years to solve.
The waistband is flat and faced, with a single bar-tacked belt loop at each hip and a button - no elastic, no hidden hook, nothing that dies before the cloth does.
It is cut wide on purpose. This is a trouser you should be able to sit on a floor in.
